CDCR Inmate Locator

The CDCR Inmate Locator is a public service provided by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) as a tool to search for information about incarcerated persons. Information about some inmates may not be included on this website due to safety and security concerns. CDCR does not guarantee the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of the information searched by the Inmate Locator.

How to Use Inmate Locator to Find Inmates in California Prisons?

There are two search criteria: Search by Name and Search by CDCR Number.

To search by name, you need to enter the last name, first name, and middle name in the search fields. The last name is required. Both the whole name and part of the name are accepted. For example, if you enter "JA" in the last name field, all inmates whose last name contains "JA" will be displayed, such as "JACK" and "JACKSON". Try to enter as much information as possible to get more exact results. To search by CDCR number, enter the number in the search field. You can also set the age range and add commitment county to narrow the search results. Then click the "Search" button.

You will get a listing of inmate records with name, CDCR number, age, admission date, current location, and commitment county of the inmates. To get more information, click on the inmate's name. A new page will appear on which you will see the parole eligible date of the inmate and some services such as rehabilitative programs, family and friends service, and victim service.

CDCR Visitation

There are four steps to visit an inmate.

The first step is to get approved. Visitors need to complete the Visitor Questionnaire (CDCR Form 106) which is sent by the inmate and mail it to the Visiting Sergeant and/or Lieutenant where the inmate is housed. Then visitors will receive notice of approval or disapproval.

The second step is to check the visiting status. Visitors should check the Visiting Status page frequently for updates on the phase status of each institution and important details.

The third step is to schedule a visit. You can schedule a visit using VSA, email, or at California Health Care Facility, depending on the requirements of different institutions.

The fourth step is to prepare to visit. Please see the inmate visiting guidelines.

If the inmate is not in the custody of a CDCR institution, look up the inmate in a county jail.
